VISION & MISSION STATEMENT

A successful business starts with a clear vision; your business plan is the roadmap to bring that vision to life. It outlines your goals, strategies, and financial plans, serving as a blueprint for your business. Beyond just a document, a strong business plan helps attract investors, secure loans, and guide decisions.

Central to your business plan are your Vision and Mission statements. These elements lay the foundation for everything you do.

Vision and Mission Statements

Your Vision and Mission statements define what your business aims to achieve and how you plan to do it. They are the foundation of your business.

Mission Statement

The mission statement is the heart of your business. It explains what you do, who you serve, and how you serve them. For example, if you’re starting a local bakery, your mission might be, "To provide our community with freshly baked, high-quality pastries and breads using locally sourced ingredients." This statement clearly outlines what you offer, who your customers are, and your commitment to quality and community.

To create your mission statement:

  • Think about what your business does daily.

  • Consider who benefits from your products or services.

  • Identify how you deliver value to your customers.

A clear mission statement helps everyone in your company work toward the same goals. Without a strong mission, your business might struggle with confusion, miscommunication, and lack of motivation.

Vision Statement

The vision statement provides direction for the future. It’s about what you hope to become and the difference you want to make. For instance, using the bakery example, your vision might be, "To be the leading bakery in Canada, known for innovative recipes and a strong commitment to sustainability." This vision is aspirational and shows where you want your business to go in the long term.

To create your vision statement:

  • Think about what success looks like for your business in 5 or 10 years.

  • Reflect on the impact you want your business to have on the community or industry.

  • Envision the legacy you want to leave behind.

Your vision statement should inspire your team and encourage growth and innovation. Without a clear vision, your business might lose focus and struggle to grow.
